I'm Back, Part IV, Or Is It Part V??

Hey! Welcome back to Short Attention Span Theater, Part whatever. I tend to forget about blogging every now and then, and when I go to check for comments or views, I remember that there really wasn't anything to comment or view. Actually, come to think of it, even when I remember to blog, there doesn't seem to be too much to comment or view. Oh, well.

Sooo, anyhoo, here I am again. I have no idea how long it will be before I wander off again, but it's been a busy few weeks since I last posted. Hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes, floods, hot and steamy weather followed by cold and murky weather, half-drowned baby squirrels, you name it, Mother Nature threw it at us.

Getting to work in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee was quite entertaining. A GPS is not really helpful if it doesn't show the myriad of roads that are either under water or covered with trees, and therefore not passable. And once I get home after slogging through the storm, I find a creature on my front porch that I take to be a drowned rat. Ugh. What are rats doing in my neighborhood? Once inside my thankfully dry house, I am mulling over said drowned rat and realize I think I saw fur on that tail. Zip outside, and realize that it's not a rat, but a nearly dead baby squirrel. I nudged her into a cat carrier, dried her off with some towels, and fed her a bit of KMR and crossed my fingers. Waking up in the afternoon, I see her sitting in her carrier munching on her peanuts! She did pretty well over the weekend, so we took her to the wildlife rehab center, where we were informed that she was old enough to fend for herself, so back to our yard we went. She was so cute! The minute we took the cat carrier out to the yard, she got all excited and started running around in the crate.

We put the carrier down in the grass, opened the door, and waited for her to scamper out. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, she peeked out and disappeared back into the carrier. After 10 minutes of this coy in and out, she finally decided to hang out on the carrier door for a bit, and then she scooted out, and ran up my leg! Oops. Wiggled her off gently, and then she realized, oh yeah, there's a tree there, and it's not wearing jeans! Up she went, running all around, and hanging upside down looking at us. I think I've seen here once or twice since then, and I hope she's ok out there in the cold cruel world.

Oh, and as you've probably guessed by now, there was virtually no knitting/quilting content in the last couple of weeks. Not only did Mother Nature keep us busy, it was 40 weeks after Christmas, which translates to babies everywhere.
