Saturday Sky

My pear tree, and an opportunistic bee on a beautiful, warm Saturday:

And this is what we dealt with earlier this week:

Six plus inches of rain on Sunday.

And, if losing my mother last week wasn't bad enough, my cat died of acute renal failure this week.

Out For A While

I haven't posted in a while, and it may be a while before I post again. My mom died suddenly last week. Although she had Alzheimer's, see was physically healthy, and this blindsided us all. I'm still so stunned I can hardly think. No matter how old you are, I guess you aren't ever ready to lose your mother. I've been on funeral leave for the last week and a half, and I go back to work on Saturday. I don't know if I'm ready. I'm finding it hard to get motivated.

The day she died, after I was given the news, I went to my room, got out my container of fabrics, my rotary cutter and mat, and went to work. I cut 2,125 2 1/2 inch squares, and 513 triangles. I'm about a quarter of the way through sewing this quilt top. It seems to help. While she never made a quilt, she did tell me stories of cutting out patches with her mother. I've knitted a bit, too, but not a lot. Just a sock. I can't concentrate too much on a sweater right now.

Monday night, I noticed one of our cats seemed a bit thin. I picked her up and realized with a sinking feeling she was dehydrated, even though she was drinking water. Off to the vets the next day for a checkup, which revealed non-functioning kidneys. So, I have to have her euthanized tomorrow. I can't believe this. I feel so numb right now.

I could not even post tonight that to Blogger and their fucking "new Blogger". What a giant pain in the ass. I don't have a Google account. I don't WANT a Google account. I'm thinking of moving my blog to typepad, but fuckin' google would not even let me access my blog to move it unless, you guessed it, I opened a goddam google account. It pissed me off even more that I could not access the blogger help without a google account. I am absolutely clueless why this is supposed to be terrific, as one of the blooger employees was gushing about in a post, telling us that some of us were "lucky" enough to be chosen (read: forced) to move our blogs. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be so lucky.

Ill be back eventually. I don't know if it'll be here or at typepad. I have to go check it out when I have the energy.

Would The Real Spring Weather Please Hang Around??

I don't know what to expect from the weather anymore. So far, we had several days of nearly 80 degree weather, and then a snow-ice-sleet storm, then more warm weather, then, cold weather. Yesterday was just beautiful, as shown by my Ice Follies daffodil, and today, it was cold, with torrential rain. The rain has stopped now, but it's forecast to be cold for the next few days, right up through Easter, and with possible snow showers!

I've been knitting on Audrey, and finished one sleeve last night. I cast on for the second sleeve today, and if I hadn't spent to much time blog-slogging, I would have made more progress. I do plan to do more tonight. I'm off from work for the next few days, so I should have a bit of time to knit.
